Hello, I’m Gill Lewis
Welcome to my website where you can find out about my stories and the inspiration behind them. I write about our human connection with animals and the wild world.
Many of my stories explore themes of both environmental and human injustice and how these are interconnected. Often inspired by real people and real events, my protagonists are not afraid to ask questions and challenge the big problems at local and global level.
My novels have been honoured with national and international awards and translated into many languages. I’m proud to officially be a Little Rebel, having won the Little Rebels Award and been nominated three times.
I truly believe that art in all its forms has the power to change the world.
In 2020 I founded the Young Wild Writer Competition in association with Hen Harrier Action, to give young people a voice for wildlife and wild places.
I live on the far west tip of Wales, where the land ends and the sea begins. I write from a cottage high above the cliffs, where the ravens dance, and the seals sing.

“Gill Lewis has established herself as the principal contemporary writer of animal stories, combining a vet’s knowledge of her subject with a novelist’s capacity for character and plot.”
The Telegraph
“Lewis cements her position as a major children’s writer with a powerful new wildlife novel…”
